With over 20 years experience in local government including public safety communications, 9-1-1 communication center operation, management, records, database administration, property and evidence management, law enforcement technology, public records policies, writing policies, researching and reporting, developing training and writing procedures, I am familiar with the methodology and technology needed to successfully manage a 24/7 public safety communications center and law enforcement support.

Including 10 years working in higher education using various learning management systems to maintain student records, databases, develop course content to mirror pedagogical findings and run tests between courses to determine the optimum content, adds to my knowledge base of technology from the user perspective.

An undergrad degree in Sociology/Political Science and a graduate degree Criminal Justice allow me to feel at home with research, data and statistics related to communities, strategic planning and their individual aspects that make each one unique.

Adding another graduate degree in Digital Audience Strategy provides the framework to use my knowledge to interview subject matter experts, research topics in-depth and use data to develop content that not only tells an important story, but that provides value to the reader.

Areas of research and study include smart cities, sustainable communities, mental health as part of communities, urban planning, risk management, community crisis planning, public health plans, creative youth development, higher education, government systems, criminal justice, 911/telecommunications, government technology, sustainable utilities, waste and recycling.

Fun things/hobbies I also learn about and write about include music education, music production and fiction writing.
